History of NOGG
The National Osteoporosis Guideline Group (NOGG) is a multidisciplinary group that includes patient representation and professionals involved in the care of people with osteoporosis. The NOGG was set up in 2007, to update earlier guidelines developed by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, producing its first guideline in 2008. This has since undergone substantial updates in 2013 and 2017, with minor updates made in 2019. The 2017 NOGG guidance was accredited by NICE in 2017. The new 2021 NOGG guideline was re-accredited by NICE in October 2021.
Structure of NOGG
The NOGG Guideline Writing Group is separated into a Guideline Development Group (GDG) and an Expert Advisory Group (EAG). The GDG is formed by members with no or only minimal potential conflicts of interest. Voting on recommendations is restricted to the GDG and where potential conflicts are declared, the member involved does not take part in the decision about any recommendations that are relevant to the disclosure. The EAG provides input into discussions about guideline revisions but is excluded from voting on the recommendations. No external funding has been received for the development of the NOGG guideline. All members self-fund their (virtual) attendance at regular NOGG meetings.
